A heliport is a designated area or facility specifically developed for the landing and take-off of helicopters. A heliport may incorporate necessary infrastructure such as a touchdown and lift-off area, safety markings, lighting, fueling points, hangars, and passenger handling facilities. Heliports are often established on hospital rooftops, office buildings, offshore platforms, and ground-level facilities to support emergency medical services, corporate travel, tourism, military activities, disaster response, and offshore oil and gas transport. They improve point-to-point connectivity, particularly in urban and remote areas.
The Prime Minister and the French President inaugurated India’s first private helicopter final assembly line (FAL) at Vemagal, Karnataka, to manufacture Airbus H125 helicopters. Government is committed to achieving self-reliance in critical tech & manufacturing high-end products through mutually beneficial partnerships. HeliSewa is a single-window digital portal by the Ministry of Civil Aviation designed to streamline helicopter operations. It simplifies permissions by connecting operators with district authorities for landing clearances, typically within 48 hours. The platform also maintains a comprehensive national directory of registered helipads and infrastructure.
India invested an amount of RS96,000 crore in the past five years to develop its aviation sector, as informed by the government. This investment aims at enhancing airport infrastructure, regional connectivity through the UDAN scheme, and the development of new airports, heliports, and water aerodromes, which will enhance operational aviation facilities. After the commencement of the scheme, 637 RCS routes have been operationalised, connecting 92 unserved and underserved airports, including 15 heliports and two water aerodromes.

Market Dynamics of the India Heliport Market:
The heliport industry is mainly fueled by the increasing demand for fast urban mobility solutions, emergency medical services, and connecting regional air routes. The initiatives of the government to enhance regional connectivity and develop infrastructure are encouraging the development of heliports in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. The growth of business travel, offshore oil and gas activities, tourism, and defense-related operations is also fueling demand. The rising congestion in urban cities and the development of air ambulance services and helicopter charter services are also major factors that are encouraging the development of heliport infrastructure.
The market for heliports is challenged by factors such as high costs of development of infrastructure, strict approval procedures, lack of availability of suitable land in urban areas, noise pollution, environmental factors, and relatively higher operational and maintenance costs.
The India Heliport Market Size trends include rising disaster management readiness, growth in pilgrimage and remote religious tourism connectivity, expansion in border surveillance and homeland security operations, increasing investments in offshore wind energy projects, development of heli-corridors, integration with multimodal transport hubs, growth in logistics and cargo transport via helicopters, and state-level aviation policies supporting private heliport development. India’s Smart Cities Mission includes 100 cities, which are intended to improve urban mobility, including air connectivity. As a part of this scheme, some cities are expected to implement heliports to ensure last-mile connectivity, thus contributing to the growth of the heliport market.
Market Segmentation
The India Heliport Market share is classified into type, product type, mode of operation, and end use.
By Type:
The India Heliport Market Size is divided by type into land-based heliports and water-based heliports. Among these, the land-based heliports segment controlled the market share in 2024 and is expected to grow at a significant CAGR during the forecast period. The land-based heliports segment controlled the market because land-based heliports are easier to develop, require less regulatory complexity than water-based heliports, and better serve urban, regional, and emergency service needs across the country.
By Product Type:
The India Heliport Market Size is divided by product type into surface level, rooftop, and elevated heliports. Among these, the surface-level segment dominated the share in 2024 and is anticipated to grow at a remarkable CAGR during the forecast period. This segment dominance is driven by the fact that surface-level heliports are generally more cost-effective and easier to develop compared to rooftop or elevated heliports, making them the preferred choice for expanding basic helicopter infrastructure across regions.
By Mode of Operation:
The India Heliport Market Size is divided by mode of operation into portable and fixed. Among these, the fixed heliports segment held the largest revenue market share in 2024 and is predicted to grow at a remarkable CAGR during the forecast period. Fixed heliports are preferred due to their more established nature, offering better long-term infrastructure support, and are preferred for scheduled operations, emergency services, and commercial helicopter activities, which drives their stronger market performance compared to portable heliports.
By End Use:
The India Heliport Market Size is divided by end use channel into commercial, private, public, and emergency. Among these, the commercial segment accounted for the highest market share in 2024 and is anticipated to grow at a notable CAGR over the forecast period. The commercial segment leads because of the increasing demand for corporate heliport services, helicopter charters, tourism operations, and growing business travel, which drive greater commercial utilization of heliport infrastructure compared to private, public, or emergency segments.
